More Cookies from the Cookie Exchange
I always get nostalgic this time of year for my mom's holiday baking. When I was growing up, she'd make probably 7 or 8 different kinds of cookies, and they were all stored in a motley assortment of tins, stacked to the ceiling on top of our refrigerator. Mom, if you're reading this, please send your recipe for those candy cane cookies!
I'm starting my own holiday cookie traditions with my young daughter, and I've been enjoying finding new recipes from my fellow Guides at About.com. Here are some more favorites from their recipe files:
Our Guide to Scandinavian Food offers a festive recipe for Danish Pepper Nuts. These tiny, hazelnut-sized cookies are a delicious and welcomed gift for teachers and friends when tucked into Danish woven heart baskets. And our Guide to Kosher Food says "If you have never made rugelach before, I suggest you roll up your sleeves and give it a try. It is much easier to make than it looks, and the results are well worth the effort. This Raspberry Raisin Rugelach recipe is simple to make and delicious to eat.
My own contribution to the cookie exchange is a favorite of my mom's: Bizcochitos. These delicate anise-flavored cookies that are served in New Mexican households during the Christmas season.
