If you're still in need of a few last-minute holiday gifts, or perhaps a hostess gift to take to an upcoming party, make a batch of smoked salt in a stovetop smoker. It's easy to do, and is a gift that will be appreciated by any foodie. I bought some fancy sel gris in bulk from my local gourmet food store, smoked it with oak chips, and packaged it in cute tiny jars that I got at a home organizing store. It can be sprinkled onto vegetables, used in place of regular salt to season many different kinds of food, or used as the finishing touch for fancy appetizers. To make your own, follow my instructions to make smoked salt.

You are so creative. Smoked Salt?! That is genius! I might have to buy a smoker at some after-xmas sale.

Do you ever infuse your own flavors to salt too? I ask as I hand-craft a unique range of flavors in Seattle from Coconut Garam Masala to Pineapple Cumin Chili to Soy to Apple 5-Spice, and more.
