Enjoying guilt-free fried food seems to be a big trend these days (I recently reviewed George Foreman's recently launched Lean Mean Spin Grilling Machine not too long ago). T-fal is jumping on the bandwagon with its ActiFry, which is being launched under the company's "Nutritious & Delicious" banner, which will encompass health-oriented kitchen appliances.
ActiFry uses circulating hot air and a paddle that constantly stirs food to cook with minimal use of fat and oil – the company claims that you can make a two-pound batch of crispy French fries with only one tablespoon of oil. Look for it in stores this spring.

Very interesting!! What does the capacity look like on this machine? Any idea of what it will approximately retail for?
I got a closer look today and it seems like it would be able to cook like a 4-6 serving amount of food. It’s big and shallow. You can also make stir-fries, risotto (it has a rotating paddle that would be perfect for this) or granola, among other things. It’s really best for food that’s in smaller chunks. The company tells me it will be out in July and will sell for around $299, so, not cheap. I’ll get a test model to review closer to the time it launches so that I can share more details.
Dear Jessica, We are the patent holder and product developer preceding TFAL aka Groupe SEB ActiFry. For US and Canada we have presented our products and continue improving them for Stirring combined with Slow Cooking, Treats Making, Saute/Stir Fry. Next we will introduce patented Heated Blenders. ActiFry is very limited in menu versatility. Please wait for us to contact you further; ActiFry infringes US patent Frying Apparatus for Both Deep and Shallow Frying, US 6,845,707, Issued January 25, 2005 and corresponding issued Canadian patent.
We have demoed the ActiFry last weekend in our store. It really works well for french fries and small snacks but not for croquettes.
Price is 180 euros for the white version.
Good to know that it works! I can imagine croquettes and other patties would be too soft and would fall apart. The person who showed it to me at the Housewares Show said that it also works great for stir-frying.
Cant wait for this to be available in Canada. My friend in England has one and although quite expensive to buy says it is the best thing she has ever bought.????
I just bought one of these units and it’s fabulous. I have kids and they love the fresh cut fries and sweet and sour chicken it makes. The result is perfect everytime and the best part of it is it’s easy to clean! It’s not available in Ontario yet however if you go on t-falonlinestore.ca website, you can purchase it there!
Happy cooking!
Actifry is now sold at the Bay in Toronto.
