I was totally coveting a Kindle because I thought it would be a great digital database for my cumbersome cookbook collection, until someone pointed out to me that the messy, wet kitchen is not a good environment for such a delicate piece of equipment. Well, here at the International Home + Housewares Show I've found a new gadget for me to covet: The Demy. Like the Kindle, this device is a digital reader, but for recipes. You can choose from the 250 recipes that are pre-loaded onto the gadget, or the 100,000 additional recipes on the company's Website. Or, you can import your own recipes from your favorite sides (including About.com!) or even type in your own. No worries about destroying the Demy, it's splash proof and drop-proof. It'll store as many as 3,000 recipes, and also has handy features like 3 digital timers, a measurement conversion calculator and a substitution list. It sells for $299 and will be available soon from Amazon.com and other retailers.

Update (6/6/09): Read my review of the Demy Digital Recipe Reader.

KitchenAid reveals a new color each year at the Housewares Show, and this year's color is Yellow Pepper, a cheerful, saturated yellow. "With the way the economy has been, we decided we needed a happy, optimistic color," a spokesperson for KitchenAid told me. Stand mixers and a number of other KitchenAid appliances will be available in Yellow Pepper later this year.

Tune in tomorrow for more new products from the Housewares Show, or follow me on Twitter.

I have to confess I LOVE my Kindle but would be nervous with it around the kitchen, knowing how messy I can be. This sounds like the perfect thing

I am definitely putting the Demi on my wish list. Perfect solution for my scribbled recipes that I seem to keep loosing. Also just the right size for my tiny kitchen.
