If desired, ice your loaf of bread. When the loaves come out of the oven, remove them from the baking pans and let them cool on a wire cooling rack placed on a sheet pan or a piece of parchment paper. When the loaves are cool, drizzle them with icing. Icing can be made by mixing about a cup of sifted powdered sugar with enough whole milk (about 1/4 cup) to make a thick icing. Flavor with a half-teaspoon of vanilla extract and a half-teaspoon of cinnamon, if desired, or the extract or spice of your choice. Mix with a whisk until smooth, then drizzle immediately over the top of the loaf of bread. Allow icing to firm up completely before storing the bread in a bread box or plastic bag.
