The 8 Best Electric Griddles of 2024

We tested the best griddles to whip up large meals for friends and family

Best Electric Griddles

The Spruce Eats / Amelia Manley

While griddles are probably most associated with pancakes and sunny-side-up eggs, they're actually one of the most versatile cooking surfaces imaginable. You can use a griddle to cook hamburgers while heating their buns, crisp up carnitas while warming tortillas, or sear a steak instead of using an outdoor grill.

These wider cooktops provide plenty of space, so you can cook for a large household, and can also serve as warming trays for a buffet spread. Electric griddles are excellent options since they can be used on any tabletop with access to an outlet; they provide consistent heat and are generally easier to clean than built-in griddles and griddle pans. We tested some of the most popular options on the market but found a few that cooked their way to the top of our favorites list.

Best Overall

Zojirushi Gourmet Sizzler Electric Griddle

Zojirushi EA-DCC10 Gourmet Sizzler Electric Griddle

Amazon

What We Like
  • Large cooking surface

  • Wide variable temperature range

  • Disassembles for easy cleaning

What We Don't Like
  • Bulky to store

If cooking with a griddle is going to be an everyday occurrence, investing in a top-quality griddle might be a wise decision. This luxurious model from Zojirushi has a nice-sized 19 x 12.5-inch cooking surface and can heat from 176 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. The cooking surface has a nonstick ceramic coating enhanced with titanium to make it long-lasting and easy to clean, while it promotes even browning. The griddle disassembles easily for cleaning, so you’ll get all the nooks cleaned every time.

We tested this in our Lab, where it earned excellent ratings across the board. We could easily cook six pancakes at once, and after the first batch, they cooked a bit quicker thanks to the griddle's solid heat retention. We also fit an entire pack of bacon on the griddle; it cooked beautifully and evenly.

The cooking plate sits inside a body guard, which helps to prevent accidental scalding while cooking. Both the guard and cooking plate are fully immersible for thorough cleaning, though we noted that it would rarely need to be submerged since the surface cleans off so easily. This griddle includes a lid for faster cooking, to hold in steam, and to protect against splattering. A stainless steel spatula is also included. It will take up a big of room when stored, but we still think it is worth the investment.

Material: Aluminum with ceramic nonstick coating | Heat Range: 176 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit | Lid Included: Yes | Dishwasher Safe: No | Dimensions: 19 x 12.5 inches | Weight: 12 pounds

Best Budget

BELLA Electric Ceramic Titanium Griddle

BELLA Electric Ceramic Titanium Griddle 10.5" x 20"

Amazon

What We Like
  • Ready to use right out of the box

  • Very nonstick surface

  • Easy to clean

What We Don't Like
  • Slight staining may occur

This wallet-friendly griddle performs well above its modest price point—featuring a generous 10.5 x 20-inch surface, it heats quickly and evenly thanks to 1500 watts of power. The dial offers great temperature control and allows you to heat the surface from "warm" to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, hot enough to turn out pancakes, bacon, and more at an excellent pace. The ceramic nonstick surface is reinforced with titanium for extra durability (though you should still avoid using metal utensils to prolong the life of your griddle).

In our Lab, this griddle performed wonderfully—pancakes and French toast cooked evenly, and the griddle maintained its heat very well throughout the cooking process. It was incredibly easy to take apart and clean, and though it is dishwasher safe, we were able to just wipe it down with a damp paper towel. While there was a hint of staining after cooking eggs, we're confident that this nonstick surface is pretty durable and will work just fine for quite some time.

The handles stay cool for optimum maneuverability and the surface has a ledge that comes in handy to stop hash browns or pancakes from slipping as you flip them. To clean, remove the probe—the surface is fully immersible and the drip tray can go right into the dishwasher.

Material: Aluminum with ceramic nonstick coating | Heat Range: Warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit | Lid Included: N/A | Dishwasher Safe: Drip tray only | Dimensions: 10.5 x 20 inches | Weight: 3.88 pounds

Best for Crepes

NutriChef Electric Griddle and Crepe Maker

Nutrichef-electric-griddle-and-crepe-maker

Amazon

What We Like
  • Heats quickly and evenly

  • Quick temperature adjustments

  • Multipurpose

What We Don't Like
  • Makes an electrical buzzing sound

This electric crepe maker and griddle by NutriChef has an easy-to-adjust temperature dial and a large (12 inches), flat nonstick cooking surface that cooks quickly and evenly. It has an impressively even cooking surface—the crepes cooked evenly from one side to the other. This surface also has a short lip so that your batter doesn't spill over the edge.

Plus, the NutriChef comes with a wooden pastry spreader and wooden crepe turner with beveled edges, which we found extremely helpful in folding over the crepes due to their large diameter. We love that the appliance is multipurpose: we can cook other breakfast favorites such as eggs, bacon, and sausage with it. There is a mechanical sound that is emitted while this one is in use, but it's not a deal breaker. In the end, if you're a crepe cake aficionado, then this griddle is a must-have.

Material: Aluminum with ceramic nonstick coating | Heat Range: Variable | Lid Included: No | Dishwasher Safe: No | Dimensions: 12 x 12.9 x 2.4 inches | Weight: 2.4 pounds

Best Multi-Tasker

Cuisinart 5-in-1 Griddler

Panini Press by Cuisinart Sandwich Maker

Amazon

What We Like
  • Multi-functional

  • Wide cooking temperature range

  • Removable nonstick plates are easy to clean

What We Don't Like
  • Drip tray is hidden

If versatility is important to you, the 5-in-1 Griddler from Cuisinart is a great choice. This model has interchangeable plates that allow you to use the machine as a griddle or grill, as well as a traditional panini press—great for sandwiches like traditional Cubanos. A waffle plate option is also available for purchase. Open the lid all the way to create a flat top griddle, perfect for making pancakes, eggs, and bacon for the family. Use the selector knobs in front to control the temperature, from 200 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit in griddle mode. When in panini/grill mode, you have a variable temperature selection from "low" to "sear," so you can adjust to your heating preferences as needed.

We liked the ease of using the Griddler, as well as the ability to set the temperature for constant, consistent heating for whatever you're cooking. One drawback we noticed is that though the hidden drip tray is convenient, it is also easy to forget about when it's time to clean up, so you'll have to be conscious of cleaning it before storing the grill away.

This easy-to-use griddle/grill combo has a sturdy brushed stainless steel exterior, which is easy to maintain with a simple wipe-down to remove any debris. Cleaning up is simple—we love that the removable nonstick plates are dishwasher safe but can also be easily washed by hand.

Material: Stainless steel | Heat Range: 200-425 degrees Fahrenheit | Lid Included: Yes | Dishwasher Safe: Yes, but just the removable plates | Dimensions: 11.5 x 13.5 x 7.12 inches | Weight: 11.44 pounds

Best Extra Large

BELLA XL Electric Ceramic Titanium Griddle

BELLA XL Electric Ceramic Titanium Griddle 12" x 22"

Amazon

What We Like
  • Easy to use without oil

  • Great quality for the price

  • A cinch to clean

What We Don't Like
  • Very nonstick

When it comes to value, this griddle from Bella—a larger version of our Best Budget pick—delivers it in spades. This durable model offers a 1500-watt heating system underneath a titanium and ceramic-coated nonstick surface. The extra-large surface, measuring 12 x 22 inches, means that you can easily cook for a crowd—incredibly useful if you have a large family or are entertaining guests.

We found the heat retention to be great with this griddle—the second round of pancakes cooked in half the time of the first batch (which initially took about six minutes). Cooking bacon was fairly straightforward, though we did have to move some pieces from the edges into the center for better crisping. We noticed that the surface remained slick throughout cooking—almost too slick, as flipping the pancakes without them slipping took some getting used to.

The griddle has a variable temperature control dial that ranges from "warm" to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The handles stay cool so you can easily move the griddle anytime, and the surface features a built-in ledge with a backstop for better control when flipping flapjacks or crispy home fries. To clean, simply remove the probe—the surface is fully immersible and the drip tray can go right into the dishwasher.

Material: Aluminum with ceramic nonstick coating | Heat Range: Warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit | Lid Included: N/A | Dishwasher Safe: Drip tray only | Dimensions: 22 x 12 inches | Weight: 4 pounds

Best Compact

Presto Liddle Griddle

Presto-07211-liddle-griddle

Amazon

What We Like
  • Perfect for smaller kitchens

  • Fully submersible for cleaning

  • Easy to store

What We Don't Like
  • No drip tray included

  • Can get very hot

A large griddle is great for feeding a crowd, but if you’re cooking for one or two, this compact griddle has plenty of space for four fried eggs, a pair of steaks, or hash browns for breakfast. The cooking surface is 8.5 x 10.5 inches and has a nonstick coating for easy cleanup. The griddle has a built-in channel that catches fat and other drippings, but there is no drip tray, so you’ll need to pour it out after cooking.

We tested this in our Lab and found that while this cooks pancakes evenly, it does run on the hot side so you'll have to pay attention to cooking time. Our pancakes did turn out well, though, and we cooked six slices of bacon at once, the perfect amount for two people. The surface is extremely nonstick, so flipping the pancakes took some getting used to, but overall, it's a pretty solid performance considering its size.

With the temperature control removed, the entire griddle is fully submersible for easy cleaning—the nonstick surface helps everything slide right off. The temperature goes from warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can use it for most of your cooking needs, whether at home, at a vacation cottage, or in a dorm room. If you need to store it in a small space when it’s not in use, the leg/handle pieces can be removed to make it even more compact.

Material: Aluminum with nonstick coating | Heat Range: Warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit | Lid Included: No | Dishwasher Safe: Yes | Dimensions: 12 x 12.9 x 2.5 inches | Weight: 3.3 pounds

Best High-End

Broil King Portable Nonstick Griddle

Broil King PCG-10 Professional Portable Nonstick Griddle

Amazon

What We Like
  • Professional quality construction

  • Large surface area for cooking

  • Comes with backsplash

What We Don't Like
  • Bulky to store

This griddle by Broiler King is a super versatile addition to your kitchen, acting almost like a restaurant flat-top grill with a generously sized, 21 x 12-inch surface. This portable griddle has legs that allow the surface to tilt slightly, encouraging grease to drain into the drip tray—comes in handy when cooking things like fatty juicy beef and bacon burgers. The removable backsplash helps to minimize splatter when cooking, an excellent feature if you are using this on an open table or kitchen island.

During our Lab tests, this griddle performed beautifully, turning out golden brown pancakes in under four minutes. It's also large enough to cook an entire pack of bacon to crunchy perfection in about eight minutes, ideal if you're cooking for a family or hosting brunch. We found it was also very easy to clean thanks to the nonstick surface and easy to store because it was so thin and lightweight.

The temperature control ranges from 150 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can use the cooktop to keep a batch of pancakes at serving temperature or to grill smashburgers. Cleanup is easy thanks to the nonstick surface—wipe down the griddle and put the drip tray into the dishwasher. It is a bit bulky, so storage may be a bit of a game of Tetris, so keep that in mind.

Material: Cast aluminum with nonstick coating | Heat Range: 150 to 425 degrees Fahrenheit | Lid Included: No | Dishwasher Safe: Drip tray only | Dimensions: 29 x 12.5 x 5.5 inches | Weight: 8.15 pounds

Best Ceramic

Presto Cool-Touch Electric Ceramic Griddle

Presto Cool-Touch Electric Ceramic Griddle

Walmart

What We Like
  • Generous surface area for cooking

  • Fully submersible with heat control removed

  • Slim profile makes it easy to store

What We Don't Like
  • Had to guide fat toward the drip tray

If you're currently enamored with ceramic cookware sets, this griddle by Presto might be right up your alley. The cooking surface is made from heavy cast aluminum with a durable ceramic coating, which is naturally nonstick and less susceptible to damage than traditional nonstick coating. The large 10.5 x 20.5-inch cooktop gives you plenty of room to cook for a crowd, from hotcakes to fajitas.

We tested this in our Lab and were pleased to see we could fit a dozen pancakes on the griddle at once. They cooked in about 90 seconds on each side and were easy to flip thanks to the nonstick surface. We were also able to fit an entire pack of bacon at once but noted that some of the pieces around the edges needed to be moved to the center to really crisp up. You'll also need to manually guide some of the excess grease towards the drip tray—not a deal-breaker at all, but something to note if you're cooking something with a lot of fat.

We found this was pretty easy to clean—you can wipe it down with paper towels, but the cooking surface is fully immersible once you remove the heat control (handwash the cooktop and removable drip tray). Thanks to its low profile, this is also really easy to store until its next use.

Material: Cast aluminum with ceramic nonstick coating | Heat Range: Warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit | Lid Included: Yes | Dishwasher Safe: No | Dimensions: 22.5 x 11.5 x 2.38 inches | Weight: 5 pounds

Final Verdict

Our best overall pick is the Zojirushi Gourmet Sizzler Electric Griddle, a top-quality model with a wonderfully durable cooking surface that is easy to clean. If you want a griddle with more versatility, we also love the Cuisinart 5-in-1 Griddler, which functions as a griddle as well as a panini press and grill and stores away easily.

Other Options We Tested

What to Look For in an Electric Griddle

Size

When picking out your griddle, you'll want to first consider how much you'll be cooking at once. Larger griddles come in handy for bigger families or on mornings when you're whipping up enough brisket hash and eggs for Sunday brunch to feed your guests, but they will also require more storage space. Smaller griddles might be the best choice for single folks, couples who don't entertain very often, or those who have limited storage capabilities.

Cooking Surface

Electric griddles are available with a variety of different cooking surfaces, including traditional nonstick and ceramic coatings. Nonstick surfaces are easiest to clean but also need to be handled with caution so they don't get scratched or damaged, particularly by sharp cooking implements. It’s definitely wise to pay close attention to the characteristics of the cooking surface to make sure it fits your cooking style and maintenance preferences.

Drip Tray

If you’re going to use your griddle to cook greasy foods like bacon and burgers, a version with a generous, easy-to-clean drip tray will make cooking and cleaning much easier. A fully removable, dishwasher-safe drip tray is ideal, but any drip tray that can be easily cleaned by hand is a great option.

FAQs

How do you clean an electric griddle?

For many griddles, you can simply wait till the unit cools and wipe away any food debris and grease with a sponge. If your griddle has dishwasher-safe parts, you can slip those right into the dishwasher for easy cleaning. Be sure to always consult your product guide for specific cleaning instructions.

Can you use a pan on an electric griddle?

You can, but it's pretty inefficient since the heating element is warming a layer of metal already and that heat will have to work extra hard to transfer to your pan. You're better off using your stovetop instead.

How do you use an electric griddle as a warming tray?

With its flat, broad surface, you can use it as a warming tray by putting it on a low setting and placing your heat-safe casserole dish or aluminum tray right on top of the griddle.

How do you store an electric griddle?

Be sure your griddle has cooled completely, then wrap up the cord and stow it away until the next time you need to use it. Many griddles can also be stored on their sides to maximize storage space.
