Guide Review - Pastry Pro Pastry Blender
I'm used to the curved-blade pastry blenders, but I always find the blades bend under the pressure of my hand (especially if I'm mixing very cold butter), and I've heard of people cutting themselves on the sharp blade edges. So I often end up cutting butter into dry ingredients with my fingers.
That is, until I found the Pastry Pro Pastry Cutter. This tool is probably the sturdiest pastry blender I've ever seen – It's made of thick stainless steel, with a molded rubbery handle that is comfortable to grip. The cutting blades are equally as sturdy, coming to a point to efficiently cut through even frozen butter or shortening. In fact, the company claims that you can completely mix in the fat in about 60 seconds using this pastry blender.
The only detraction of the Pastry Pro is that because the blades are flat, obviously the base of the bowl has to be flat as well. But the flat blades, as well as the design of the handle, seem to help keep one's hand and wrist from getting fatigued.
While it's more expensive than other pastry blenders on the market, its durable design and ease of use makes this a worthy purchase for an avid pastry maker.
